A Fife couple left heartbroken just two weeks ago after discovering their wedding venue had closed down cried tears of joy after being offered the “wedding of their dreams” for free.
Sabrina Roberts and Kevin Mercer from Lochore were one of many couples left devastated after the Strathearn Hotel in Kirkcaldy closed its doors suddenly.
Following a showdown with hotel bosses, Sabrina, 36 and Kevin, 33, who have six sons, were told their wedding was off and they may never get their deposit back, which amounted to all of their savings.
Happily, wedding bells are ringing again, thanks to the generosity of Fife businessman Dean Melville.
Mr Melville, managing director of Kingdom Taverns Group Ltd, was so touched by Sabrina and Kevin’s plight that he got in touch with them to offer them a wedding at the Dean Park Hotel as a personal gift.
“I decided I wanted to offer a free wedding and can honestly say I couldn’t have chosen a better, more worthy couple.
“When I told Sabrina I wanted to give her the wedding of her dreams she gave me a hug and couldn’t let go she kept saying she was so happy it was a very emotional moment.
“She and Kevin are both such genuine, lovely, down to earth people who have been through so much and, really, just deserve a break and a bit of luck.”
Sabrina, who suffers from a neurological condition called Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), a progressive illness which damages the peripheral nerves, said: “We are over the moon that our wedding is now back on for October 2 and Dean has become our knight in shining armour and has taken the stress off our shoulders.
“We can’t ever thank him enough. We love the venue so much.”
Mr Melville said: “I would like to thank our suppliers for coming on board and kindly offering their services for free, particularly Steven Dewar from Scotia Pipers, Finishing Touches by Adele, Stevie Mitchell from Puddledub Farm, Janet Barnes from Oh Crumbs and Lorelle Elizabeth Photography.”
