Grant Gay has been charged with the culpable homicide of 60 year-old Lawrence Wallace. It is alleged he assaulted Mr Wallace in Tolbooth Street, Kirkcaldy, Fife on March 20 last year. Prosecutors claim Mr Wallace, who lived in the town’s Leslie Street, was pushed and then struck on the face causing him to fall to the ground. Gay faced the allegation during a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday. His lawyer Iain Paterson entered a not guilty plea and lodged a special defence of self defence. Judge Lady Scott set a trial due to start on August 22 in Edinburgh. The case is likely to last around five days. Bail for Gay was continued. Mr Wallace’s family issued a statement at the time of his death which said: “Laurie was an adoring father who will be sorely missed. “His loss has left us devastated.”
