A fire at a Fife farm which could have killed a herd of cows was started deliberately, say police.
An investigation has been launched into the blaze which ripped through 300 hay bales near Kingskettle.
Firefighters fought the blaze in a field at Orkie Miln Farm through the night on Monday.
Damage worth a four-figure sum was caused.
Police Constable Leisa Metcalfe said: “The damage to the bales was confined to a field, although a barn occupied by cattle was in close proximity and could easily have spread to that area with devastating results.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have been in this area at this time, or who may have any information regarding this incident, to contact police immediately.”
The fire was reported around 9.15pm.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dispatched five appliances to deal with it.
Crews from Glenrothes, Cupar and Auchtermuchty were supported by a water bowser from Larbert.
