The father of missing man Michael Slavin has issued a message of thanks to the public after a body matching his son’s description was pulled from the Clyde.
John Slavin, who works as an associate at Remax estate agents in Glenrothes, said he had been “touched beyond words” by the kindness and generosity of people who gave up their time to search for Michael in and around Glasgow city centre on Wednesday, five days after his son went missing after a night out with friends.
Electrician, Michael, 23, from Dumbarton, had been in Sugar Cube nightclub on Queen Street in the early hours of last Friday and was last seen at around 2.45am in the St Enoch Square area.
John was too upset to speak on Thursday, but his brother Vincent thanked everyone who had been involved in the search for Michael on his behalf.
“The body has yet to be formally identified, but it matches Michael’s description so we are all devastated as you can imagine,” he said.
“We will never forget the kindness of the people who rallied around and helped us search for Michael while he was missing.
“Around 300 people turned up to take to the streets of Glasgow on Wednesday and John and all Michael’s family were so touched.
“John would also like to thank all those who used social media such as Facebook and Twitter to spread the word of Michael’s disappearance as well as the press for their assistance.”
