An angry row has erupted between Aberdour residents and Cala Homes.
The housebuilder has described claims made by a group of residents over its plans for 100 homes at Main Street as “unfortunate”.
Cala said suggestions raw sewage would be pumped onto the Silver Sands beach were misleading.
The developer has released a statement in response to the claims. However, residents of Easter Aberdour said they were angered by Cala’s response.
Derek Lawson, strategic land director for Cala Homes, said: “It is unfortunate that a group of residents, who were directly affected, sought to mislead the wider community on a number of matters that were simply not true.
“A series of public posters emerged ahead of the event containing alarming speculations some of which included an assumption that this would lead to pumping of untreated waste onto Silver Sands beach, and the local school being unable to cope with the influx of families.
“These were simply not true.
“Cala is a responsible developer and we will work within the confines of the statutory processes to mitigate the impacts generated by our developments.
“We are simply responding to the significant need across Fife for new homes in locations were people want to live.”
Cala recently held a drop-in session to show local people the plans, which would involve building on prime agricultural land overlooking the Silver Sands.
The field had been a preferred site for housing but was removed from the draft local development plan by councillors.
The draft plan is now with the Scottish Government for approval.
Speaking on behalf of opponents to the scheme, resident Colin Mackenzie said: “Of the 200 people who attended an exhibition held by the developer, over 165 signed letters of objection to the proposal and others indicated an intention to contact Cala Homes directly to object.
“Aberdour residents are angered at Cala’s description of their awareness campaign as misinformation and inaccurate speculation.
“All opposition material has been circulated in good faith and derived from evidence held by or presented to the campaign group.
