A man suffered burns to his arms in an early morning blaze at his cottage near St Andrews on Monday – but a pet cat escaped injury by hiding under a bed.
Fire crews were called to two cottages at 7 Denhead around 2.30am.
The fire spread to the roof space of the two-storey buildings.
All residents were able to escape the burning buildings but one man was taken to Ninewells Hospital suffering from burns to his arms.
Firefighters used hosereels to put out the flames and discovered a pet cat hiding under a bed as they searched the properties afterwards.
An investigation into the cause of the blaze will begin on Monday.
