Craggy Island is coming to Kirkcaldy as the Scottish premiere of TV classic Father Ted is aired.
Kirkcaldy Amateur Dramatic Society (Kads) will present the show at the Adam Smith Theatre. It could be considered a bold venture for the society as the characters are so well known.
However, Kads are old hands not only did they produce the Scottish premiere of Fawlty Towers in 2006 but have also presented a stage version of ’Allo ’Allo.
So now they are bringing alive their own versions of Ted, Dougal, Father Jack and Mrs Doyle.
New member Craig Waters said: “It is a joy to play Father Ted. I’ve always been a fan and it will be a big achievement if I can pull off playing such a well-loved character for my first big role with Kads.”
Craig is studying drama at Fife College and teams up with drama graduate Kenneth Fairclough, who plays Father Dougal and Ewan Howells as Father Jack.
This production is a dream come true for many of the cast, who are such fans of the show they know scripts word for word.
Director John Gray said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be putting on the premiere of such an iconic show.”
Footage has been shot around Kirkcaldy as part of the show and this has also provided an opportunity for another record to be set as it allowed Kads’ most senior member and the youngest ever to appear in the same production.
Ruth Mackay, one of the founder members, has made countless appearances since its first production in 1975, while at the other extreme John’s grandson Thomas Gray, four, makes his debut.
It will run from October 24-26.
