Fife Council claims it has an ‘excellent’ pothole repair record

Fife Council has hailed its record in repairing the region’s potholes following reports it would cost £95.6 million to get carriageways up to scratch.
The Courier highlighted the issue last week, including one Q road between Cupar and Kilmany which had 95 potholes along a 4.3-mile stretch.
However, the local authority has described its repair record as “excellent” and said it aimed to fill all large potholes classed as emergencies within 24 hours of them being reported and inspected.
Figures revealed it had achieved this 97% of the time last year, while its success rate in fixing smaller potholes within a target of five working days was more than 90%.
Councillor Pat Callaghan, executive spokesperson for environment and transportation, said: “Winter always creates a big challenge for our roads team. Freezing temperatures, grit, heavy rainfall and flooding cause considerable damage to Fife’s road network.
“We’ve deployed all available resources to repairing this damage and on average we fix 500 potholes a week.”
