A desperate father cradled his injured son in his arms after watching in horror as he was struck by a van.
The six-year-old boy remains in a serious condition in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following the incident on Aberdour’s Main Street.
Witnesses have told The Courier that the youngster was hit by the blue Mercedes Sprinter van on the road, having been on the kerb with his father just seconds earlier.
Emergency services closed the busy road for four hours as they tended to the boy, with a police investigation into Tuesday evening’s incident now under way.
The collision has thrust the issue of road safety in to the spotlight, with residents saying that a raft of pending traffic calming measures cannot be implemented soon enough.
