A vomiting bug has forced a Fife school to close its doors.
A “high” number of pupils from Sinclairtown Primary School called in sick on Thursday after contracting the mystery sickness bug, with more pupils being sent home as the day progressed.
Fife Council head of education Bryan Kirkaldy said a decision had been taken to close the school completely today to allow a deep clean of the premises to avoid further contamination.
He told The Courier: “On Wednesday the school’s head teacher, Carol Keddie was alerted to the high number of pupil absences due to the sickness bug, known to be present in the community.
“Contact was made immediately with the NHS health protection team. On their advice, a programme of preventative enhanced cleaning was put into place and all parents were contacted.
“The number of pupils absent today (Thursday) has risen and as a measure intended to allow a period of time to stall the spread of any infection, the education service has decided to close the school.
“We are working with the NHS health protection team and fully anticipate that the school will reopen as normal on Monday morning.”
A spokesman for NHS Fife said they were aware of the closure of the school.
