Families in a Dunfermline street have been given the all-clear to return to their homes after a fire saw around 30 properties evacuated on Sunday night.
The blaze started in the Farmer Autocare premises in Reid Street at around 4.45pm and, although it was said to be a relatively minor fire, the presence of flammable material meant authorities requested the evacuation of nearby homes as a precaution.
That meant that dozens of people had to find alternative accommodation for the night as firefighters cooled an acetylene cylinder which was the cause of the concern.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said most people had been able to find their own shelter for the evening, although some were offered Fife Council accommodation nearby.
A cordon was immediately set up around the affected garage, but that was finally removed shortly before 11am today as fire crews deemed the area safe.
Police say no-one was injured and confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.
As well as ordering the evacuation of homes next to the garage, officers had asked residents living just beside the cordon to stay indoors until the area was made safe.
“Both Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to thank the local community for their assistance and co-operation at this time,” a fire service spokesman said.
