Fife motorist blacked out at wheel in A90 incident

Horrified A90 drivers looked on as a motorist blacked out at the wheel and crossed through the central reservation into the opposite fast lane before coming to and carrying on for a quarter of a mile as if nothing had happened.
Forfar Sheriff Court heard details of the incident on the road near the town after Fife driver Barry Given was dealt with.
Given, of Miltonbank Crescent in Guardbridge, admitted driving carelessly on the dual carriageway near Parkford, north of Forfar, on June 19, losing control of his vehicle and passing through the central reservation before driving southwards on the northbound carriageway.
Depute fiscal Jill Drummond told the court the incident happened around 4pm when another driver on the inside lane saw Given’s BMW in a line of traffic.
Defence solicitor Billy Rennie said the 31-year-old oil and gas technician had initially been offered a fixed penalty for the offence, but encountered problems paying the fine and the matter was subsequently raised in court.
Sheriff Pino Di Emidio fined Given £230 and imposed six penalty points on his licence.
