A police sergeant is to stand trial accused of being in charge of a car while more than two and a half times the drink-drive limit, a court heard.
Sgt Thomas McGinn, 48, of Police Scotland’s Fife Division, denies the charge and claims that he had no intention of driving the car until he was sober. McGinn appeared at Cupar Sheriff Court for a pre-trial hearing.
It is alleged that on January 3 this year at Crawford Walk public car park, Commercial Road, Cupar, he was in charge of his Volkswagen Passat while drunk.
Prosecutors say a breath test carried out on McGinn found he had 92 microgrammes of alcohol in every 100 millilitres of breath more than two and a half times the limit of 35.
McGinn, of Crawford Place, Ladybank, denies the charge on summary complaint. Sheriff Charles Macnair continued the case to trial next month.
