Fife officer baffled by phone-using drivers’ risk taking

A senior Fife police officer says he is baffled by drivers that continue to use their mobile phones while behind the wheel.
Chief Inspector Graeme Kinmond, area commander for Levenmouth, has warned motorists who continue to flout the law that it is “very likely” they will be caught if they continue to use their phones illegally.
He told councillors there remained a significant number of people who persist in making and receiving calls, despite the penalties for being caught.
He told Levenmouth area committee: “I don’t understand why people still use their phones and drive as it is very likely that they will get caught but still a lot of people do it.
“It is still an offence that you can get three points and a fine for.”
Mr Kinmond also said the problem of illegal off-road motorcycleactivity in the area had been curbed slightly following a recent clampdown.
Reflecting on recent police action, he added: “We had one person in custody and that tends to scare off others.”
