Storm-hit Kirkland High School expected to remain closed on Monday

A Fife school is likely to remain closed on Monday after Storm Gertrude caused structural damage.
Teachers at Kirkland High School in Methil took the decision to send pupils home early on Friday morning on health and safety grounds after problems with the roof were identified following high winds.
That left many parents with an unexpected childcare headache, as many of the pupils had already arrived at school.
However, it has now emerged that Monday could well be another day off for the kids with repair work expected to run on past the weekend.
Headteacher Ronnie Ross said: “Damage to the roof caused by storm Gertrude has meant we have had to close the school.
“The damage is being assessed today and Building Services will make repairs over the weekend to make the school safe.
“This work will still be underway on Monday and we hope we can reopen on Tuesday if the weather permits the work to be completed.
“In the event the school needs to be closed for longer we are making contingency plans to minimise disruption to the school pupils.”
Parents are advised to keep an eye on Fife Direct school closure updates for the latest.
