Three distinguished figures from the worlds of academia and the arts will be honoured by the University of St Andrews next month.
Sir David Edward, Vicky Featherstone and Professor Cheryl Praeger will all receive honorary degrees during the University’s St Andrew’s Day graduation ceremonies on Monday November 30.
Sir David is Professor Emeritus of the University of Edinburgh and a former Judge of the Court of Justice of the European Communities, while Ms Featherstone was artistic director of The National Theatre of Scotland between 2005 and 2012 and is currently the artistic director of the Royal Court Theatre.
Meanwhile, Ms Praeger is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Western Australia and foreign secretary of the Australian Academy of Science having also been named the first female president of the Australian Mathematical Society.
The three honorands will join hundreds of graduating students over the three ceremonies taking place at the University’s Younger Hall that day.
A number of other high-profile figures have already been awarded honorary degrees from the University of St Andrews this year, with author Alexander McCall Smith, who created the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, and social anthropologist Jane Lave, from the University of California, among them.
