Kirkcaldy hall lead theft is drain on vital community funds
ByJonathan Watson
Replacing stolen lead from a Kirkcaldy hall will cost money “we don’t have”, a community leader has said.
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward after lead strips were removed from the roof of the Philp Hall on Links Street.
Around 20 metres of the material was removed from the building between Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon.
Replacing the strips is expected to cost thousands of pounds, with John Farmer of the Linktown Action Centre saying: “That is money that we don’t have. We are a small community group and any reserves that we have are only for emergencies.”
Police are investigating the crime and are asking for anybody who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the Links Street area to come forward.
Local PC Mark McCulloch said: “It’s an important local building and any information would be appreciated. It’s a well-populated area so hopefully somebody has seen something.”
Anybody with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
