A 40-year-old woman is expected to appear before a sheriff in Kirkcaldy in connection with the murder of Leven grandmother Mary Logie.
The woman, who was arrested and charged on Wednesday, is due to appear in private on Thursday.
She was arrested after a high-profile police operation around Mrs Logie’s home in Green Gates, which followed the discovery of the 82-year-old’s body on Tuesday January 5.
The minister of Leven Parish Church Rev Gilbert Nisbet praised the work of police during the investigation.
He said: “It is difficult to understand and the general reaction is now that the police have charged somebody, maybe we will get to the bottom of what happened.
“People in the church were shocked by her death but are now trying to pick up and get on with their lives.
“There has been a lot of shaking of heads and people saying how terrible it is that it happened to someone they know.
“But as one of her friends put it is ‘we cannot let this get us so down and we have to keep going’. That is the kind of spirit there is around here.”
The minster described Mrs Logie as a “friendly, outgoing lady” who was very active in the church and Leven Guild.
Local councillor Tom Adams added: “There has been an outpouring of support from the local community of which Mrs Logie was a treasured member.”
