Police have confirmed that a body found on a Fife beach this week was that of Leven woman Catriona Kennedy.
Ms Kennedy, who was 29, had been reported missing from her home on Monday night.
Police were involved in extensive searches but confirmed on Friday that a body discovered on the beach at Drumbarnie Links Wildlife Reserve, Upper Largo near, on Wednesday morning was Ms Kennedy’s.
Detective Sergeant Jim McGuinness, who is overseeing the enquiry, said: “We can confirm that the body has now been formally identified as that of Catriona Kennedy, and her next of kin have been informed.
“Pending the results of a post mortem, we are currently treating this as an unexplained death.
“The family do not wish to make any public comment and have asked to be allowed to grieve in peace.”
Ms Kennedy’s body was found on Wednesday the same day Springfield teenager Tommy Brown’s body was found in the River Leven.
He had been reported missing last Friday night.
Police stressed the tragedies were not connected.
