A Fife teenager has been sentenced to 32 months’ detention for a violent attack in which he stabbed his victim after a Halloween house party.
Afterwards, Dylan Brister went to a relative saying he needed help because he had stabbed someone, adding: “I think I’ve killed him.”
Brister, 19, of Whyte Avenue, Leven, admitted that on November 1 2014 at Glebe Street, Leven, while acting with another, he assaulted John Logie, repeatedly stamped on him, punched and kicked his head and body, repeatedly struck him on the head with bins and struck him on the body with a knife all to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Sheriff Simon Collins imposed a 32-month sentence and also a one-year supervised release order for the protection of the public.
Brister spent the night of October 31 at a friend’s home on Glebe Street with a number of other people.
At about 8pm, Mr Logie arrived with a three-litre bottle of alcohol which was shared among those present.
At around midnight Brister was about to leave and was described as being “well under the influence”.
The householder, Margaret Michie, heard a smashing sound coming from the kitchen. She went through to find broken glass and her back door lying open.
A neighbour also saw what they thought was a knife, with Brister getting on top of the victim and punching him a number of times on the back.
The accused and another were seen to throw wheelie bins, striking Mr Logie on the head, while continuing to punch and kick him on the head and body.
Later, Brister went to his aunt and made a comment along the lines of: “I need help, I’ve stabbed someone, I think I’ve killed him.”
The victim suffered bruising and abrasions to the neck, face, arms and back. He had a 3cm laceration behind his left ear, a wound to his right ear and a 1cm stab wound to his upper back. A CT scan showed he had a fracture of his orbital bone.
Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said his client had “no significant record” but said it was accepted that a custodial sentence was likely.
