RAF Leuchars crew return after spreading their wings over Sweden
ByThe Courier Reporter
Typhoons from RAF Leuchars have returned from an exercise in northern Sweden.
Eight jets from 6 Squadron with their flight crews and support personnel spent two weeks at Kallax air base.
Exercise Arctic Challenge was a chance to work with aircraft from other nations and the Typhoons flew more than 100 sorties.
Wing Commander Mike Baulkwill said: “We have been superbly hosted by the Swedish Air Force and the exercise has provided us with exactly the training we required.
“The opportunity to plan and execute large missions with different aircraft being based in four different locations in three different countries has been very realistic and worthwhile.
“Both pilots and ground personnel have gained a great deal from Exercise Arctic Challenge and operating in Sweden.”
During their free time, squadron personnel took the opportunity to explore the local area of Lulea with many making the 100-mile trip to the Arctic Circle, stopping en-route to take photos of the impressive scenery at Storforsen.
