Calls have been made to increase the height of railings on a Glenrothes footbridge after a man plunged to his death.
The incident happened shortly before 7.25am on Wednesday on the eastbound carriageway of the B921 Kinglassie Road, between the Stenton and Bankhead roundabouts.
Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious, but it has reignited concerns about safety.
Peter Scobie, chairman of the Pitteuchar, Stenton and Finglassie Community Council, said his thoughts were with the family of the man who died, and suggested measures to protect pedestrians and motorists should be revisited.
“There have been times when things have been thrown over the bridge at moving cars, but we haven’t had anything like this,” he said.
“It’s shocking. We don’t know exactly what’s happened but lots of people use that footbridge every day.”
He continued: “One of the things that has been brought up by the community council was to get higher sides put up on the footbridge to stop people throwing things off it, and I’ve heard people suggesting that there’s a sway on the bridge as if it was moving as they crossed so I don’t know if that’s something that needs to be looked at as well.
“Obviously we’ll have to talk with our local ward councillors to try and establish what happened and how we can prevent something like this happening in the future.”
The victim has not yet been named by police.
