Fife schoolgirl on her way to becoming a teenage tycoon after opening own shop
ByThe Courier Reporter
A business minded schoolgirl is running her own Christmas shop in Kirkcaldy.
Young entrepreneur Poppy Canny, 14, has set up shop in Hunter Street, a few doors down from where her mum Louise runs jewellery boutique Eloise.
With the help of mum, Poppy started trading at the age of just nine, ploughing profits back into buying stock.
“Mum bought stuff initially,” said Louise.
“Before she would keep any money for herself she paid mum back and restocked.
“For five years, she’s been selling from mum’s shop.
“Because I’ve given her a bit of my shop for so long, she’s now given me a bit of her shop.”
Poppy’s pop up shop is selling bath melts, trinkets, Eloise bargains, Christmas decorations and funky crochet knitwear made by Maxine Lawson, who is helping out during the day while the teen attends school.
“There’s nothing in here over £20,” said Louise.
“Poppy’s stuff is all under a fiver.”
The Balwearie High School pupil is taking business studies as one of her subjects and when not looking after her shop enjoys singing and gymnastics.
