A Kincardine man was hit over the head with a bottle and then his reckless behaviour led to his sister-in-law sustaining broken ribs when trouble broke out at a family party.
The incident led to Robert Ramsay being told to pay £1,800 in compensation at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
Ramsay, 49, of Windyhill Cottages, admitted that on August 30 at Broomknowe Drive, Kincardine, he assaulted Caoimhe Burnett, seized her by the body and pushed her to the floor to her injury.
He also admitted acting in a culpable and reckless manner whereby his sister-in-law, Catherine Ramsay, was injured.
Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia said Ramsay and his wife had gone to his brother’s house at 8.15pm. Alcohol was consumed and at around 12.15am, as they watched TV, Ms Burnett made a comment which resulted in Ramsay becoming agitated.
“He grabbed hold of her arm and pushed her to the floor ‘with some force’ as she described it,” said Mr Kapadia.
The accused was then struck on the head with a bottle or vase when his brother became involved. “His sister-in-law tried to separate the parties and she was struck in the melee which resulted in her having two broken ribs,” said Mr Kapadia.
Police were contacted and the accused was found at the rear of his home with his scalp bleeding.
When interviewed later by officers, Ramsay said he had little recollection of the incident but said: “I certainly won’t be partying there again.”
Defence solicitor Roshni Joshi said her client was “extremely remorseful”.
Sheriff Charles MacNair ordered Ramsay to pay compensation of £300 to Ms Burnett and £1,500 to his sister-in-law.
