Police Scotland say they “are no longer looking for anyone” in connection with the report of an abduction attempt on a schoolgirl in Leuchars.
Officers say the investigation has concluded.
In a statement released late on Thursday night, police said: “Following a robust enquiry, officers in Fife are no longer looking for anyone in connection with this report.
“The media and public are thanked for their assistance with this matter.”
No further information was available.
The announcement came just a day after officers stepped up their investigation into what had been described as an attempted abduction.
Officers stopped and questioned motorists in the Pitlethie Road area where the teenager was said to have been approached on September 24.
The police had been investigating a report that the Madras College pupil was encouraged to get into a grey Land Rover-type vehicle by the driver after she stepped off a bus in the village.
The girl said no force was used and the girl was unharmed and made her way straight home.
The report had led schools in the area to issue advice to parents urging them to ensure their children’s safety.
Police had already quashed rumours circulating on social media that there had been other abduction attempts.
