An orphaned otter, pining for its dead mum and brother, is being nursed back to strength.
The Scottish SPCA is helping the tiny cub which was found by a dog walker in Back Braes in Newburgh two weeks ago.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was contacted by the walker to rescue the pair of otter cubs from woodland after they were found next to their mother’s body.
The 10-week-old siblings were taken to the charity’s National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fishcross, Clackmannanshire, for expert care but tragically one of the cubs was extremely weak and died that day.
The surviving cub, who has been named Tay, is continuing to recover.
Centre manager Colin Seddon said: “Tay was weak on arrival but he is responding to treatment.
“Understandably, he is still quite stressed from the loss of his brother and mother but he is feeding himself which is a very good sign he is already on the road to recovery.
“We hope to pair Tay up with a cub of a similar age soon as this will help his development.”
