A section of the busy A92 through Fife closed on Friday night for the weekend.
Resurfacing improvements costing £345,000 are being carried out by BEAR Scotland between Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes.
The southbound section of the dual carriageway between the Redhouse and Bankhead roundabouts is closed until 6.30am on Monday.
Around 16,000 vehicles travel south on the road everyday and the highways maintenance firm said the route was in need of upgrading.
It said it had consulted local residents and stakeholders ahead of the closure to make them aware of diversions and to minimise inconvenience.
BEAR Scotland north east unit representative Andy Thompson said: “These works will repair a number of cracks, potholes and other issues which will improve the general condition and safety of the road for motorists.
“The resurfacing has been scheduled to minimise delays, however, we encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
Traffic is being diverted via the B921, B922 and B981 to rejoin the A92 at Chapel.
