Glenrothes’ new leisure centre is continuing to prove a hit with the public, according to latest figures.
More than 225,000 customers have passed through the doors of the Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre since it opened in July.
The £21.1 million facility replaced the former Fife Institute, which was demolished to make way for the new complex.
However, the new building has quickly found favour with the public and Glenrothes area committee chairman councillor Altany Craik says that it is already proving to be a huge asset for the town.
He said: “Reaching a quarter of a million visits in less than five months of opening only goes to show what a fantastic and well-liked facility it has become in such a short space of time.
“The centre has attracted lots of new customers to take part in physical activity and has a vital part to play in keeping local people of all ages active.”
Visitor numbers for the new centre are up significantly on its predecessor, while it has also attracted acclaim from outwith the local area, having been nominated in the Development of the Year award at the 2014 Scottish Property Awards.
Ed Watson, chief executive of Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “The quality of facilities has clearly attracted regular gym-goers as well as those who are new to visiting leisure centres on a regular basis.
“As a primary objective of the trust is to engage people in physical activity, it is a very welcome sign that more people are getting more active more of the time,” he said.
