The closure of the Forth Road Bridge appears to be having some positive impact on Fife’s hotel industry.
The Courier spoke to several industry leaders with those responding painting different pictures, based on geography.
Balmule House, a hotel located near the M90 to the north of Dunfermline, has reported an increase in bookings following the closure of the crossing.
Morag Thomson from the establishment said: “At this time of year, midweek tends to be a bit quieter but at the moment we have plenty of people coming to stay for dinner, bed and breakfast.
“It tends to be people from Glasgow or Edinburgh who are working over in Fife, the opposite of what we often think the commute is.
“They don’t want to be sitting in traffic for a long time so the closure has had a positive impact for some businesses.”
Kay Carrington represents Fife Council on the Kirkcaldy and Mid Fife branch of the Fife Tourism Partnership.
Though the group will find out exact figures in April, councillor Carrington believes that businesses closer to the bridge are most likely to benefit.
“I think that hotels in the west of Fife are probably more geared up to take advantage of things, being nearer the bridge.
“There will be people that work in Kirkcaldy and elsewhere but there’s not a huge number of hotels around here for them to stay in.”
