The A92 is closed between Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes following a serious road accident.
The northbound stretch between the Redhouse and Bankhead roundabouts has been shut following a collision between a lorry and a car.
Details of the incident are unknown with a green tarpaulin having been erected around the unidentified car.
The crash, which took place around 150 yards beyond the Redhouse Roundabout, was reported to the emergency services at around 3pm.
There are long delays as the evening rush hour begins, with reports of some drivers queuing for around half an hour.
Police are currently diverting traffic via Thornton, but motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that it has appliances in attendance at the scene, but a spokesperson was unable to elaborate on the situation at the current time.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Fife were called to the A92 between the Redhouse Roundabout and Bankhead Roundabout around 3pm on Monday April 4.
“This was following a report of a serious road traffic collision involving a lorry and a car.
“Northbound traffic is currently being diverted and drivers are asked to follow the local diversion signs.
“The public are thanked for their patience while the police investigate the full circumstances.
“Further updates will be provided when available.”
