Drama as blaze breaks out at site of new Queensferry Crossing in Fife
ByJonathan Watson
There were dramatic scenes on the new Queensferry Crossing on Sunday after a fire broke out on one of the sections of the new bridge.
This startling photo, sent to The Courier by a reader, appeared to show a shipping container on the new Forth crossing well alight.
It later emerged that a piece of construction equipment caught fire on the North tower of the crossing shortly before 11am, sending plumes of smoke in to the air.
However, fire crews in both Fife and Edinburgh confirmed that they had not been contacted by contractors and a Transport Scotland spokesperson confirmed that there had been no injuries among the workforce.
He added that there was also no damage caused to the structure as a consequence of the blaze.
