Kinghorn lifeboat rescues solo yachtsman after vessel hits rocks
ByThe Courier Reporter
Kinghorn RNLI rescued a lone yachtsman on Saturday afternoon after he ran aground on rocks south of Inchkeith Island.
The 19ft yacht was grounded on Briggs rocks and started to sink when its hull was damaged.
The crew took the sailor, a man in his sixties from West Lothian, on board while a crew member went on board to set up a tow.
The yacht was taken to Granton Harbour.
Lifeboat helm Mark Brown said: “This man was fortunate in that he made good use of his VHF radio to issue a mayday call for assistance.
“It is unclear what caused this incident, but we would always recommend that a good lookout is maintained at sea, including the use of charts and electronic aids.”
