Disgraced former Dunfermline MSP and convicted wife-beater Bill Walker claimed business travel expenses for days when he was in court facing domestic abuse charges.
The 71-year-old was found guilty of assaulting three former wives and a stepdaughter between 1967 and 1995 following a trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in August.
He was jailed for 12 months when sentenced in September.
However, it has now emerged the former SNP politician submitted mileage claims for three trips to and from his office in August while he was standing trial.
He submitted claims of £4.50 for each round trip.
Walker also submitted claims for winding up his constituency office in Dunfermline after he bowed to public pressure and resigned as an MSP.
Despite being expelled from the SNP in April 2012, he remained in the Scottish Parliament as an independent MSP until he finally stood down amid public outcry following his conviction.
He claimed £144 for removing signs from his office after standing down.
Other claims submitted by Walker included £50 for a copy of Who’s Who in Scotland, £4.99 for a pad of A4 paper and 99p for a bag of sugar.
It is understood the Scottish Parliament does not intend to review the expenses but his claims have been strongly criticised by other parties.
A spokesman for Scottish Labour said: “We will look at raising this with the parliamentary authorities.”
An SNP spokesman added: “Claiming expenses when he was in the dock looks indefensible.”
Scottish Conservative chief whip John Lamont added: “This is a matter for the parliamentary authorities and one they should be looking at.”
Bill Walker was convicted of 23 charges of domestic violence in relation to three ex-wives and a stepdaughter.
The former Fife councillor was found guilty of assaulting his first wife, Maureen Traquair, on three separate occasions in the 1960s and 1980s.
He was also found to have assaulted his second wife, Anne Gruber, 15 times between 1978 and 1984 at various addresses in Edinburgh and Midlothian.
Additionally, he was convicted of assaulting his third wife, Diana Walker, four times and of assaulting Mrs Gruber’s stepdaughter.
His current wife, June, defended her husband, describing him as “an upstanding man” who would not cheat on his expense claims.
