Singer Barbara Dickson has lent her voice to a Fife brain injury charity ahead of its relaunch.
The Dunfermline-born award-winning performer will meet brain injury survivors and their carers when Fife Headway unveils its new look next Thursday.
Ms Dickson said: “It’s a pleasure to be able to come to Kirkcaldy again and see the people involved in Headway’s work there.
“I once had an employee who suffered a serious head injury. This was in Lincolnshire, where I used to live, so I have first-hand experience of how challenging this can be for the person and their family, very often requiring permanent change in their lives.
“It’s good to be involved here in Scotland and I wish them the very best in the future.”
Also showing support for the charity at the relaunch will be local MSP David Torrance.
The event will take place in the Victoria Hotel, Kirkcaldy, from 11am to 2pm and is open to anyone interested in learning more about brain injury. It will also mark the start of Fife Headway’s new brain injury services directory, following the lead of its sister group in East Lothian.
The directory, which has been produced by Irwin Mitchell Solicitors, will provide information and key local contacts for families, carers, clinicians and other professionals in need of guidance or specialist advice.
Elaine Russell, who is a partner at Irwin Mitchell Scotland, said: “We are proud to be able to produce this directory with Fife Headway.
“I hope it provides a valuable resource to people in Fife affected by brain injury and their families.”
Thanks and tributes will also be paid to Fife Headway’s stalwart member, Barbara Linton, who officially stood down as chairwoman last week after 21 years of devoted service.
She received support from the local group in 1995, eight years after her late husband Bob sustained a traumatic brain injury in a motorcycling accident on her birthday.
Mrs Linton said: “I intend to continue supporting Fife Headway as it is a charity that is so close to my heart.
“Fife Headway was our lifeline at a very difficult time.
“As a charity that is hugely reliant upon community support, it is fantastic to see high-profile figures such as Barbara Dickson and David Torrance coming along to promote the new directory and highlight the vital frontline services we provide for local families affected by brain injury.”
