Police have moved to reassure the public following the brutal murder of Leven grandmother Mary Logie.
Local area commander Chief Inspector Adrian Annandale said: “Although such crimes are extremely rare for Leven, Mary’s death has had a significant impact on the public and we are utilising all resources at our disposal to bring her killer to justice as quickly as possible.”
As forensic officers continued their examination of Mrs Logie’s home in Green Gates, a neighbour said there was a sense of unease among the community, with the 82-year-old’s assailant still at large.
Mrs Logie was beaten to death with a rolling pin in what police described as a shocking attack on a defenceless elderly woman.
A neighbour found her on her living room floor on Tuesday evening last week. She had sustained head injuries.
A white Ford Transit van has been removed from the scene but police would not confirm if this was linked to the inquiry.
The flat next door has also been searched by forensic officers.
Mr Annandale said police patrols had been stepped up in the area.
He also thanked the community for its “tremendous” support in the search for Mrs Logie’s murderer.
“We have spoken with a number of people who have all been extremely forthcoming and willing to help in any way they can.
“I want to reassure the community that we are doing everything we can to identify whoever is responsible for Mary’s death and are pursuing various lines of inquiry.
“In the meantime, our inquiry is ongoing and we will continue to have high-visibility patrols within the Green Gates area for the time being.
“Again, I ask anyone who has information relevant to the murder inquiry to please contact police immediately on 101. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
