An off-duty taxi driver crashed his car into a lamp-post after screeching his way through Dalgety Bay while over the drink-drive limit.
Gary Ward, 36, of Fraser Avenue, Inverkeithing, admitted that on September 17 last year on Moray Way, Dalgety Bay, he drove a car dangerously, repeatedly spun the wheels, swerved within the road, drove across a roundabout without stopping and lost control of the vehicle, all while under the influence of alcohol.
He also admitted to driving with excess alcohol when he appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Thursday.
Depute fiscal Nicola Henderson said that a police officer in Dalgety Bay became aware of screeching tyres and saw the car being driven by Ward wheel-spinning out of the car park of the doctors’ surgery at 3.35pm.
Others witnesses saw the car continue to wheel-spin and swerve across the road, as pedestrians walked nearby. He then lost control of the vehicle, striking a lamp-post.
Defence agent Ross Anderson said his client had been driving the taxi the night before the offence and afterwards had been drinking beer and whisky, as he felt under stress because of matters in his personal life.
Sheriff Craig McSherry called for reports including a restriction of liberty assessment and Ward will be sentenced on May 6.
He was disqualified from driving with immediate effect in the meantime.
