ByCheryl Peebles
Syrian refugees wait at a train station in Tovarnic in Croatia to board a train heading towards the Austria.
Urgent talks are being sought with the country’s leaders about how Fife can help refugees.
Fife Council leader Councillor David Ross has pressed the UK Government to do more to tackle the humanitarian crisis and offered the region’s assistance.
He has also praised the work of local groups and individuals to send emergency supplies and aid and offer accommodation to those fleeing war-torn countries.
He also gave assurance that those in need of support locally would not be sidelined.
Mr Ross said: “We are committed to helping those in greatest need and helping them to rebuild their lives here.”
