A Fife man has been jailed for six months after being convicted of driving while disqualified for the third time.
Craig Slater, 48, of Droverhall Avenue, Crossgates, admitted that on November 17, in that street, he drove while disqualified and without insurance.
He also admitted that having been involved in a collision, he failed to stop and report the accident.
At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, depute fiscal Louise Ward said that a neighbour had been in bed when she heard a loud bang from outside her home in the early hours of the morning.
She looked out into the street and saw the accused getting out of the driver’s side of a car and walking away from the vehicle.
At around 12.40am Slater had gone to his bedroom, where his wife had been sleeping. He was described as “agitated” and said he thought he had hit a car.
At 5am the owner of the car that had been struck went to his vehicle and discovered the damage.
Police officers were called to the scene and discovered the damage and markings on the road and pavement, which led to Slater’s driveway.
Sheriff Charles Macnair said: “You have a bad record and you should not have been behind the wheel of a vehicle.”
He continued: “You drove, you crashed, you failed to stop and, of course, you were driving without insurance.
“You have two previous convictions for driving while disqualified, along with numerous other driving offences.”
Sheriff Macnair jailed Slater for six months and disqualified him from driving for 40 months.
