Harley Coote is through to the next stage of TeenStar.

Harley Coote, 12, has reached the regional final of this year’s TeenStar competition.

The youngster from Methil will sing in Manchester on May 24 for her chance to reach the grand final at the O2 Arena in London.

TeenStar is run in conjunction with Future Music, which is responsible for the discovery of singers Lucy Spraggan and Luke Friend.

More than 8,000 people auditioned for this year’s competition for the chance to win time in a recording studio and £5,000 to spend on developing their act.

Harley, a first-year pupil at Buckhaven High School, was spotted by a sound engineer at a showcase organised by local singing teacher Mary Bradford.

She was persuaded to enter TeenStar and was immediately put through to the next stage of the contest following a closed-door audition.

Harley, who taught herself to play guitar, accompanied herself as she sang You’re Not Innocent, a song about cyber bullying. She sang it again at the Scottish final on Sunday, but will perform a different number, For Your Daughter, in Manchester.

Harley’s mum Jacquie is very proud of her daughter who, she says, never displays any nerves.

“It makes me not well thinking about it, but she doesn’t get nervous,” she said.

Unfortunately, Jacquie will be abroad when Harley makes her next appearance, but the youngster will be accompanied by dad David and step-sister Lynne, along with other members of her family.

Singing teacher Mary described Harley as a “smashing lassie” who is confident, enthusiastic and driven.
