Teenage pupils at a Fife high school pelted young children and a baby with flour, eggs and water as an after-school prank went wrong.
The pupils at Bell Baxter in Cupar have been reprimanded after terrified young children and at least one baby were caught up in the incident on Monday.
Several complaints were made to police and school officials following the incident as senior pupils preparing to sit exams celebrated their final days of school.
It occurred as children were being collected from nearby Westfield Nursery.
Parents of youngsters caught in the crossfire hit out on social media.
One said on Facebook that a baby in a pushchair was soaked, another child struck and eggs shoved through letterboxes.
Joanne Robertson said: “It’s absolutely disgusting.
“Surely they can’t get away with this behaviour and terrifying young infants?”
Branding the conduct a “disgrace”, Glenn Munro said: “It’s OK if they keep it amongst themselves but not involve little children and innocent people.”
It occurred on the first day of school after the spring holidays, however senior pupils begin study leave ahead of exams which start on Tuesday.
Rector Phil Black gave assurances that such behaviour was not tolerated.
“We have taken appropriate action to address this and have already dealt with the matter.
“We have been in touch with the residents and parents who made a complaint and this matter has now been concluded.”
