A student who jumped bare-foot into floodwater has been dubbed St Andrews’ very own superhero.
Edward Lelland saw huge puddles at the North Haugh as an opportunity for some frolics, took off his shoes and began somersaulting and sliding about.
Town resident Chris Wallard was walking nearby and filmed his antics and his video has become a hit online.
Hundreds of people have been entertained by his acrobatics and come up with nicknames for the fun-seeker, including the Sliderman, Marshman, Swamprunner and the Skiter.
Chris said: “I was surprised to see a barefooted stranger performing remarkable high-speed acrobatics, somersaulting and aquaplaning across the surface of the floodwater.
“When I shared the footage on the Facebook group Overhead in St Andrews the community were quick to join the hunt to identify St Andrews’ very own mystery superhero.
“Gotham City may have Batman but within minutes St Andreans christened their very own Sliderman.
“Only the herons were unimpressed, watching sternly from a very safe distance and frowning at this disturbance to their tranquil home!”
Edward, who comes from Virginia, in the USA, lives at the university’s Andrew Melville Hall.
Since his exploits made him a local celebrity others have been making the most of the flooded fields, bringing paddleboards and even kayaks.Watch the video here.
