Friends of a “much loved” young Fife father who died in a road accident last month have paid tribute to him at one of his favourite haunts.
Car mechanic Adam Maxwell, 28, who grew up in Auchtermuchty but had recently moved to Buckhaven, died from his injuries on November 14, the day after he was involved in a collision on the A916 south of Craigrothie, near Cupar.
Grieving friends organised a meeting at the Driftland racing circuit in Lochgelly on Saturday morning as a fitting tribute to the young father.
Mr Maxwell was described as “mad for his cars” and drifting.
Speaking from Driftland on Saturday, one of his friends who said she was “too shy” to be named described him as “a wee guy with an awfy big heart”.
She told The Courier: “This has been organised by all of Adam’s friends. It’s a little tribute to him and we want to raise money for the Air Ambulance team that took him to Ninewells Hospital following the crash.”
Mr Maxwell’s fianc Emma Lloyd was also at the commemoration. She declined to be interviewed.
Mr Maxwell, who attended Newburgh Primary School, Auchtermuchty Primary School and Bell Baxter High School in Cupar, was airlifted to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee following the crash and later died there.
A car enthusiast, Mr Maxwell trained to be a mechanic and spraypainter at Adam Smith College and Perth College.
In his spare time he enjoyed the motorsport and had attended various drifting events and competitions across Fife over the years.
At the family home in Gateside, Mr Maxwell’s stepfather, Joe Rodger, 64, said Adam’s passing had left a “huge void”.
Mr Rodger was his stepfather for 26 years and brought him up with his mother Barbara who sadly passed away following a battle with cancer seven years ago.
Mr Maxwell had a little boy called Tyler and had started up his own body repair business, AM Developments, at Prestonhall Industrial Estate in Cupar.
Mr Maxwell also leaves behind a brother Joe, 22, sister Kirsty, 34, and stepsisters Julie McIntosh, 38, and Rosie Mackenzie, 38.
