Courier journalist Michael Alexander has been shortlisted for a national award.
An exclusive interview he carried out in January about a Fife woman who was strangled by her ex-partner has been shortlisted for the 2015 Write to End Violence Against Women Awards in the category of Best Article-News.
The article, written by Courier lead news feature writer Michael when he was Fife chief reporter, gave a harrowing insight into the experiences of a woman who spoke about her violent experiences and urged others not to suffer in silence.
The shortlist, which includes work by journalists at The Sunday Herald and The Guardian, was chosen by a shortlisting panel that reviewed anonymised text of the nominations.
The winners of this year’s awards will be announced on December 10 at the Scottish Parliament. The parliamentary sponsor is Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale and the event compere is Carolyn Leckie.
Jenny Kemp, Co-Director of Zero Tolerance said about this year’s shortlist:“This yearwe’ve really been able push the boundaries of the award and reach out to a wider audience than ever before.
“Fundamentally, we want to encourage media that is informed and responsible about VAW reporting, across a variety of formats and platforms.
“So we’re delighted that this year, we’ve attracted a record amount of public nominations from diverse sources and we’re really pleased that our shortlist includes a broader range of voices.”
