Food, fish and fun will be the focus when the 2015 Anstruther Harbour Festival kicks off this weekend.
Being the year of Scottish food and drink, East Neuk and Fife food producers will be highlighted in a marquee at the harbour front, where fresh allotment produce, seafood, artisanal baked goods, cheeses, jarred sauces, bottled drinks and more will all be offered for sale.
Seafood handling and cooking demonstrations will be presented all day on Saturday by Jim Knox of Fisherman’s Larder, SRUC Elmwood Hospitality and Seafood Scotland.
The festival is a family-friendly weekend of music, dancing performances, two nightly dances, classic yachts and working boats in the harbour, fun rowing races at the beach, magicians, jugglers, exotic animals, and more.
The Scottish Fisheries Museum and RNLI have open days, with free entry to the museum and their activities, with the well-known RNLI burger and kipper cookout taking place.
East Neuk Open Studios also has their open weekend, with 14 artist venues in Cellardyke open for visiting and browsing.
Harbour Festival events begin with the Dunedin Dancers and musicians performing tonight at the Anstruther harbour front, followed by the City of St Andrews Pipe Band parading from Waid Academy.
The evening will be capped off by a free ceilidh, with music provided by local favourites, Nackytoosh.
On Saturday there will also be a submariners’ memorial service, with exotic animals, face painting, magicians, juggling, balloon twisting, and kids crafts’ taking place throughout the day.
Fusion Performance Dance and East Neuk Dance troupes will have their dancers performing energetic routines and Grace Black, jazz specialist, performs again this year in the large marquee.
The Shed Family provides blues, country and folk music late in the afternoon, and then the Saturday night dance features Gummi Bakko from the Fence Collective, and Safehouse, in the large marquee.
