Lucky escape as bungled bump-start causes car to roll into Fife loch
ByCraig Smith
A woman and her dogs had a lucky escape in Fife after her car rolled into a loch.
Stunned visitors who had made their way to Townhill Loch near Dunfermline early on Sunday morning contacted police after spotting the submerged white Toyota Aygo in the middle of the loch, although it transpired that all the drama had happened hours previously.
Firefighters had been called at around 8.30pm on Saturday to assist after the female driver had tried to bump-start the vehicle following a flat battery.
It is understood she had left her lights on to see where she was going as she took her dogs for a walk, and returned to find the vehicle unresponsive.
However, after loading the dogs back into the car, the woman’s attempts to restart the vehicle caused it to roll down the embankment and into the water.
Thankfully the woman and the dogs managed to escape unhurt, and efforts to recover the car from the water are ongoing.
