A project to breathe new life into town centres has given a multi-million boost to communities across Courier Country.
And in Fife Cupar is celebrating the news a £764,000 Scottish Government funding package will see 18 affordable homes built on the site of the County Buildings.
The news was welcomed by Fife Council depute leader David Ross, who said: “I am very pleased Fife has secured this funding which will add to almost £2 million the council has already committed to the project.
“This will allow us to take forward the proposed refurbishment and new build housing development at County Buildings, bringing much needed affordable housing.
“The project will redevelop, in a sensitive way, what is a prominent building in the heart of Cupar’s conservation area and will contribute to the regeneration of the town centre.”
As well as Fife, the bulk of a £2.75 million initiative to bring city centre buildings back into use as affordable housing has gone to towns across Perth and Kinross, Angus and Central Scotland.
The fund is a demonstration project set up as part of the Town Centre Action Plan unveiled by Local Government and Planning Minister Derek Mackay last month.
“The Scottish Government is determined that our town centres should be vibrant, attractive and safe places where local people and visitors alike want to live, work, and do business in,” he said.
