A brave Cupar girl who has been the face of the Kilt Walk charity is to have surgery after she was injured in Saturday’s freak accident at the Cupar Children’s Gala.
Six-year-old Summer Wroniecki, who recently battled cancer, was one of those hurt when a giant inflatable slide broke loose in high winds and wreaked havoc at the gala in Duffus Park.
Summer was knocked into a neighbouring funfair ride by the somersaulting inflatable. She received medical attention at the scene before being transferred to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, where she is receiving treatment for a suspected broken bone.
It’s a particularly cruel twist of fate since hundreds of families were due to return to Duffus Park today for ‘Summer’s Wee Walk’ to help raise funds for TCCL Lodge a St Andrews holiday house for children with cancer and their families and Cupar’s Castlehill Primary School. We say it’s time Summer had some better luck. If you would like to donate to the TCCL Lodge fundraising effort clickhere. You can also donate by texting an amount (maximum of £10) to 70070. For example, to donate £5 text TCCL01 £5 to 70070.Walk organisers have confirmed the event has had to be postponed. It’s hoped this can be rearranged over the next couple of weeks at which point Summer can be part of it.
Posting a message on Facebook on Sunday morning, Summer’s father Chris Wroniecki said: “Karen and I would like to say thanks to everyone for their kind words at this horrible time.
“Summer will be getting surgery at some point. When do we wake up from this nightmare?
“Summer is a tough cookie as you all know and will again bounce back.”
