The sands of Kirkcaldy will be the venue for the country’s first beach Highland games.
The gathering will combine traditional favourites with more modern entertainment, including children’s races and a kilted dash for adults.
Hosted by the local Business Improvement District, Kirkcaldy 4 All, the free event will be held at low tide, from 10am to 1pm on August 15.
The event was dreamed up 30 years ago by friends Don Campbell of Lochgelly and Andrew Bowie of Kirkcaldy as they trained on the beach.
They put their plans on ice until the rebuilding of the sea wall and promenade upgrade was complete.
Borders and Highland Games handicapper Don said: “Kirkcaldy is the perfect location for a beach Highland games, with its long sandy waterfront and natural viewing area from the promenade.”
