A Burntisland couple were subjected to a terrifying ordeal as they were tied up while a gang ransacked their home.
The three men burst into the Burntisland home of the pair a 37-year-old woman and 54-year-old man in the early hours of Tuesday, tying them up before robbing them of hundreds of pounds worth of personal belongings, including mobile phones, a laptop and flatscreen TV.
The shocking crime happened in the isolated street of Bendameer Road shortly before 3.30am.
The gang forced their way into the semi-detached home and restrained the couple, who were said to have only moved into the area around six months ago.
Police have launched a manhunt for the robbers.
Detective Sergeant Neil McKenzie said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the occupants, who were not only extremely frightened after being bound by the suspects but very distressed at the theft of their possessions.”
He appealed for anyone who remembered seeing anything suspicious to contact police immediately.
Meanwhile, the force has issued a description of the three men wanted in connection with the case.
They are all white with medium build. All were wearing dark clothes.
One was said to be considerably shorter than the other two. He had collar-length fair hair.
There was a hive of activity at the scene as police carried out their investigations but as darkness fell the house was empty.
Neighbours spoke of their shock that such a crime could happen in their quiet area.
One, who wished not to be named, said they had lived there for decades without a hint of trouble.
Many only learned of the incident when police alerted them.
One had heard a few “bumps” but nothing out of the ordinary to provoke alarm.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
