Hundreds of Kirkcaldy residents had their water cut off after a main burst on Wednesday morning.
By late morning Scottish Water engineers had restored supplies to most affected properties.
However, around 50 were left with no running water.
A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “Scottish Water is carrying out emergency repairs to a burst water main located at Balmoral Drive, Kirkcaldy.
“By bringing water in from backfeeds in the network, our engineers managed to swiftly reduce the number of properties affected from 1,200 down to 50.
“We are tankering water directly to these 50 properties to ensure everyone remains in supply while we continue to carry out this vital repair work.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this work may have caused and are doing everything we can to ensure the repair is completed as quickly as possible.”
